Wild Earth Chardonnay 2017

This elegant cool climate Chardonnay has tremendous length with a creamy mid palate and a mineral finish. This 2017 vintage shows beautiful flinty notes with rock melon and lemon curd. On the palate, there is great concentration complemented by freshness from the apt acidity with flavours of sweet melon, citrus and an underlying earthiness. While the new oak has minimal influence on the palate it contributes greatly to the wine’s extra-long finish. A fantastic wine to drink on its own but also great with fish, seafood and cuisine with lots of zest!

The wine was fermented with wild yeasts on full solids which adds both richness and complexity to the wine. The small batch wine was made with just one new barrel (20% new oak) from the premium Troncais forest in France; the rest was fermented in older French oak. Minimal stirring and full malolactic fermentation gives the wine a balance of creamy texture and great drive.

"Tangy, bright, high energy chardonnay with wet stone, mineral, yeasty lees, ginger and spicy oak flavours. A good example from a slightly cooler than average vintage, with a perfect balance of alcohol sweetness and fruity acidity"
