Wild Earth Rosé 2017

Our 2017 Rosé has a beautiful pale pink hue that hints at the array of aromas that will dazzle and delight. Intensely aromatic - the florals and bright red fruit dance in the glass. Energetic aromas of cherries, wild strawberries, and red currant are complemented by hints of fresh rose petals. It is a dry style Rosé with incredible concentration and sweet red fruit that is perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. Understanding that the result often mirrors the intention, we set out to make a complex Rosé that is balanced and engaging - truly a kaleidoscope for the senses.

The 2016/17 growing season was challenging throughout New Zealand. Central Otago faced a very cool summer with seemingly incessant winds. However, the harvest period was calm and dry leading to high quality wines overall. The vineyards were disease free and the fruit we received was immaculate although yields were very low.

The 2017 Wild Earth Rosé is comprised of 30% Pinot Gris from an established vineyard in Gibbston with the balance of Pinot Noir coming from a higher elevation site in Lowburn - a favourite for Rosé! These vineyards were selected purposefully for their potential to produce complex and balanced Rosé. The Pinot Noir from the Lowburn vineyard was harvested in early April and was cool fermented in a stainless steel tank to retain freshness. The Gibbston vineyard was picked almost a month later and fermented in older barrels to encourage texture. Grapes from both blocks were left on skins for 2 days before pressing in order to extract the beautiful pink hue.
