Wild Earth Pinot Noir Rosé 2020
Our 2020 Pinot Noir Rosé has a Provence-like salmon hue that hints at the elegant, fresh style that will unfold in the glass. Intensely fragrant, the floral notes and bright red fruit sing beautifully of “classic” Central Otago Rosé. Enticing aromas of pomegranate, wild strawberry, and red apple are carried long on the palate by the fresh acidity. It is just off-dry with great concentration and sweet red fruit that is perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity which is the hallmark of wines from Gibbston and a result of our decision to pick early. With each new vintage, we set out to make a complex Rosé that is balanced and engaging – truly a kaleidoscope for the senses.

Following a mild winter, the 2019-2020 growing season was generally cool natured. February was wet with double the average amount of rainfall and March followed with less rainfall but it all fell over the same week. March was one of the coolest in recent times which slowed the final ripening period. Yields were normal with minimal disease pressure and we had the benefit, particularly in Gibbston, of the classic long hang time. The cool nights helped retain the perfect level of acidity for Rosé.
The fruit for the 2020 Wild Earth Pinot Noir Rosé comes from an organically farmed vineyard in Gibbston that was purposefully selected to produce a fragrant, balanced Rosé that is fresh and delicious. The hand harvested grapes were picked later in April and were left on skins for 2 days before pressing. The cooler growing season resulted in less pigment in the grape skins which gave us a paler pink / “onion skin” colour (vs pure pink). The juice was fermented at cooler temperatures in a stainless-steel tank to retain freshness. No fining products are used to make this wine. This wine is vegan.

“Elegant and delightfully charming with rockmelon, ripe strawberry, floral and subtle spice aromas on the nose, followed by a juicy palate that’s beautifully rounded and refreshing. Upfront and immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2023”.

“Fresh, youthful and floral with a core of ripe red cherry and cranberry, some red apple, apricot and saffron. Silky textured on the palate with a contrasting acid line, fruit flavours to mirror the nose with a plump, ripeand fleshy mouthfeel. Best drinking from purchase and through summer 2022”.

“Bright, salmon pink with a rose-gold hue and some depth, even colour throughout. The nose is softly full, nuances of stonefruit, raspberries intermix fragrant florals and a creamy veil. Medium-bodied, dry-ish to taste, aromas of peaches, raspberries, strawberries have a good core, melded with red florals. There’s a subtle creaminess, and fine-textured phenolic lengthens the palate. Lively acidity provides a fresh drive. A juicy and attractive Pinot Noir rosé. Match with charcuteries and cured salmon over the next 3 years. The fruit was sourced from Gibbston, organically farmed, 2 days on skins, fermented in stainless steel to 12.5% alc, 5.56 g/l RS. Unfined, vegan friendly. 18/20 pts”.

“This single-vineyard, Gibbston wine has an ‘onion skin’ colour, with hints of pink and orange. Already very expressive, it is a basically dry style, with a touch of tannin and good depth of peachy, spicy, strawberryish flavours”.
